Cold & Flu Treatment La Jolla

The flu is a common health condition that everyone gets at some point in their life. The influenza virus is the main cause of the flu. Since this condition is a respiratory illness, it’ll cause you to experience coughing, sneezing, sore throat, nasal congestion, and runny nose. If the virus is not treated promptly, you could end up with more severe symptoms like fatigue, headache, weakness, sweating, fever, chills, and aching muscles. People use the terms “cold” and “flu” interchangeably, but these are two different conditions with many of the same symptoms. The flu is specifically caused by the influenza virus, while a cold may develop from any number of different viruses. The difference between the flu and cold can be recognized by how quickly the symptoms develop. Cold symptoms take longer to develop, and flu symptoms worsen very quickly. For example, if you go to bed one night feeling fine and then wake up the next day with congestion and a strep throat, then you probably have the flu. But if you only feel a little tingle in your throat which gradually worsens over the course of a week, then you probably have a cold. Cold & Flu Treatment La Jolla: What to Do

The good news is that your immune system will eliminate the virus after a couple of weeks, whether you have the flu or a cold. However, the most difficult part will be dealing with the symptoms while you wait for the virus to go away. Many of these symptoms can keep you from doing your normal daily activities, such as going to school or work.

If you don’t have the flu yet, then a flu shot vaccination is recommended. It’ll help your body develop an immunity to the influenza virus, which will make it more difficult for you to catch the flu. There are no guarantees here, but most doctors will recommend for their patients to get a flu shot each year.

If you already have the flu, then you can treat it with decongestants, anti-inflammatories, antihistamines and cough medicine. The exact treatment you take will depend on your symptoms. For example, a sore throat can be treated with a cough drop. A headache can be treated with ibuprofen, which is an anti-inflammatory drug. These are over-the-counter drugs. Make sure you don’t take too many because you can still overdose on them. Follow the directions on the label.
